10' LANCE CARSON LATE 50'S PIG

Many people don’t realize that Dale Velzy originally designed the Pig board in the 1950s. I rode these as a teenager at Malibu, and early versions were made of balsa. The design was so efficient that it remained popular into the early 1960s.

I don’t claim to have the closest replica of Velzy’s original Pig, and while some modern reproductions are decent, my goal has been to create a version with a more elegant, smooth outline. I used several template variations to refine the shape while keeping all the classic Pig characteristics.

In my opinion, some modern Pigs have too much bump on the hip or incorrect fins. My version rides like a true Pig—smooth, fast, and with the proper feel. - Lance Carson
